War Dancer (left) and 2DOX Lugar (right). 2DOX Lugar was the 2009 ABGA National Grand Champion Buck. They are both at a similar age. This can give a viewer some perspective of our differences in focus. We stay away from the strong Roman Nose. We breed to have the horns separate away from the neck sooner. We breed for a deeper body, rather than the tubular look, to give greater support strength for the back instead of trying to make an animal look longer. We focus on having maximum muscle in the shoulder area which is where the 2nd most percentage of meat comes from in a carcass. We minimize the long neck look to "average" length as the South African standards call for and look for more muscle than length in the neck area to strengthen it. We believe that actual additional strength in the neck is better than a perception of the body being longer because of a longer neck. 2DOX Lugar is an impressive buck. This is only to show viewers where we differ in our approaches in breeding and our justifications for our style of Boer buck. |

War Dancer twist at 18 months old while living in the pasture with just a small amount of pellet supplements. The general recommendation for putting weight on a goat is to feed them 4+% of their weight to gain. 3% is required for just maintaining weight. War Dancer weighs around 240 lbs and gets around 4 lbs of pellets a day. This is approx 1.5% of his weight in pelleted feed and the rest comes from the pasture. We don't try to make our bucks heavy. We try to keep them healthy. Have you ever wondered why so many well known bucks die so young??? |
