Below is a picture of 18 acres of  a mixture of Ryegrass, Hairy Vetch, and Whistler Winter Peas. We will be cutting and baling this as soon as the weather is dry enough to cut and bale. We will be putting some of this into small square bales and the rest into small round bales. The square bales will weigh around 50 lbs and the small round bales will be around 600 lbs.

The picture above and below were taken May 05, 2009. The picture below shows the hairy vetch and Austrian winter peas that is in the ryegrass.  Here is the marketing write-up on the seed mix.

Over time Ryegrass can increase the friability of heavy soils and add bulk to light soils. When left uncut, Annual Ryegrass normally reaches a height of 3-7 feet, and will reseed itself to flourish year after year. It shows vigorous growth in both the spring and fall. This Ryegrass is the TOP growing Ryegrass on the market in USA, CANADA, and MEXICO.

The picture below, taken two years ago. is of our goats eating from  a round bale of the same type of ryegrass mixture. We put a bale out for them as soon as it was baled and they hardly touched it. We decided they did not like it. However, we put another bale out after the hay had time to cure and this is the results. This will be the first time we will make small square bales and test on our goats to see how well this mixture does.

We still plan on planting our Haygrazer seed as soon as we get the ryegrass cut, baled and off the field.
