We believe that we are the first U.S. Boer Goat breeders to proactively have DNA tests done on our breeding bucks and offer the results on our web site and on record for other breeders to use if desired.

At the time this policy was created, some breeders in the industry were being removed from an association for putting incorrect "date of birth" on flush kids.  A breeder had purchased an animal at a production sale and found out the next year that the bloodlines had been changed on the pedigree one year after the sale and the owner was never notified. The breeder requested a DNA test, at his expense, and the seller rejected allowing the DNA test to be done.

Our Proactive Ethics Policy is to ensure breeders considering buying animals from us or breeding with our bucks, they will be getting exactly the bloodlines that we promised. We will proactively provide information and policy statements that will allow us to verify our animals to the buyers satisfaction. This will be done by the following:

  • DNA reports already done on our bucks

  • Opportunity for any breeder to have a DNA test done on any of our animals

  • Posting our breeding schedule and kidding dates

  • Does sold as bred, are sonogrammed prior to leaving our farm

  • We will never change information on a pedigree after selling an animal

DNA Reports on our Bucks

On December 05, 2005, we requested Global Genetics and Biologicals company to take one straw from each of our breeding bucks and have a DNA test done for us. Global Genetics is a state-of-the-art center in Bryan, Texas, that we use for collecting and storing our semen straws. These straws were collected in 2005 and have been in their custody ever since. They do not do DNA testing but they work with ImmGen in College Station, Texas, which is approved  for doing DNA testing of Boer Goats. The DNA reports are available on our web site and at ImmGen. Here are the DNA test results for the following  breeding bucks:

If any breeder doubts the validity of our reports, we will allow the breeder to have a DNA test done at an approved company at the breeder's expense plus a $75 fee. If any test comes back showing our original DNA test was incorrect, we will refund the $75 fee plus $500.

Have a DNA Test Done on Any Animal

We will never refuse to have a DNA test done if a breeder has any doubts about the true bloodlines of our animals. The DNA test must be done with a company approved by the Boer Association that the animal is registered with. The test will be at the requestors expense plus a $75 fee. If any test comes back showing the pedigree of an animal we raised was incorrect, we will refund the $75 fee plus $500. We cannot guarantee the bloodlines of animals that we purchased from other breeders.

Posting Our Breeding Schedules and Kidding Dates

For several years, we have had a breeding schedule page on our web site that lists all of our breeding does. For each doe, we list:

  • Doe

  • Breeding Buck

  • Date of Breeding

  • Date of Kidding

  • Number of kids, sex and birth weight

We do individual breedings and know exactly when the doe was bred. We do not run any bucks in a pasture with does to be bred. They are bred one at a time in isolated pens and sonogrammed 35-40 days after breeding to verify the pregnancy.

The breeding dates can be validated by watching the schedule. We update the kidding dates within hours of the doe kidding. Any breeder is welcome to drop by at any time, with a 4 hour notice, to visually inspect our herd and new kids.

Does Sold Bred

If we sell a doe as bred, we will confirm by sonogram that she is bred before she is removed from our farm.  We have our own sonogram machine and can do a sonogram with the buyer watching if the breeder would like. If we breed someone else's doe, we can sonogram the doe for the breeder at no expense.

Never Change  Information on a Pedigree after the Sell

We will promise to never change any information  on a pedigree of one of our animals after it has been sold. If any problems are found after the sell, we will work with the buyer to understand any mistakes that may have been made and then work with the buyer and the association to correct any potential errors.

Summary

We are offering these policy statements to show the industry that some breeders can be trusted and set an expectation for what potential buyers should consider looking for when buying their next animals from other breeders.
